WHY SHOULD I EAT A CRICKET?

ETHICAL EATING.

Our crickets live in their ideal environment where it is hot, dry and full of plants to munch on. They live out 97% of their expected life span before temperatures are turned down and their metabolisms stop. Much the same as in the wild , after crickets have foraged and fed, they become a source of protein for a larger mammal.

HUMAN DESIGN.

The human body has one enzyme called CHIA. Its job is to break down chitin, the substance that makes up the exoskeletons of insects. Chitin is an anti-inflammatory dietary fibre that promotes gut health, reduces cholesterol, supports weight loss, and helps control blood pressure. 85% of the worlds population already reaps the nutritional benefits of eating insects. We need to catch up!

NATURALLY NUTRITIOUS.

Protein is life. It’s the builder of your body, your muscles, bones and skin. We need protein to grow and repair. Crickets contain 69% protein. They are a complete protein, meaning they contain all of the nine essential amino acids needed to strengthen our muscles, immune systems and brains. Also high in iron, calcium, potassium, zinc magnesium, vitamin B and fibre.

SUSTAINABLE.

Crickets have a tiny ecological footprint and are conducive to large scale farming as they naturally need minimal space, food and water to grow. Crickets produce less greenhouse gases and ammonia than their livestock counterparts.  They also require less resources than plants AND their digestible protein levels are higher than plant proteins.  Eating insects will help create a more sustainable food system and have a positive impact on climate change issues.

HOW WILL EATING INSECTS SAVE THE WORLD?

GASES

Every time a cow burps or passes gas, a little puff of methane wafts into the atmosphere. Livestock are responsible for about 14% of the green house gases damaging our ozone layer. I’d love to say crickets don’t fart at all but of course they do. We all do. But there’s are much more polite and they produce 0.0014% of the worlds greenhouse gases a much more delicate emission. Eat crickets, save the planet.

ENERGY

We currently source our crickets and flour from certified farms in Cambodia and Malaysia, both are naturally hotter than the sun and enable the crickets to bask in temperatures I can barely breath in. Production of our crickets create a footprint 90% smaller than beef, if we tried to replicate their natural conditions in the UK, that footprint would significantly rise.

LAND

Until I did my research, I had no idea just how much deforestation took place globally simply to create enough land to produce feed for livestock. A staggering 6.7 billion acres of tropical forests are destroyed for cattle production (that's about the size of 5 billion football pitches)! Insects eat very little and live in close proximity to each other so there is no need for any deforestation or land clearing to house or feed them.

WATER

We all know that it takes over 2,000 litres of water to produce one beef patty, but the mass farming of meat is not the only thing causing the water crisis. Did you know it takes 5 litres of water to produce 1 almond?  Crickets drink very little, therefore they add no pressure to the planet's water problems.
